Jarasum Jazz Festival 2025 – Expanding Global Connections through Cultural Exchange

Jarasum Jazz Festival 2025 will deepen its international reach through cultural exchange programs with Hungary, Singapore, and Canada. The initiative features performances by leading jazz artists from each country, overseas showcases for Korean musicians, and collaborative projects involving multinational ensembles.


Hungary

Hungary is the focus country for this year’s festival. In partnership with the fast-growing JazzFest Budapest, Jarasum Jazz will present a series of cultural exchange programs.

Four cutting-edge Hungarian jazz groups will perform at the festival, offering a glimpse into the country’s evolving jazz scene. Earlier in May, Park Jin-Young New Trio successfully performed in Budapest, and this November, the winning group from Jarasum Jazz’s Searching for Jazzman project will also be featured in Hungary.


Singapore

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Singapore. In celebration, Jarasum Jazz Festival is partnering with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore’s national performing arts centre, to present a special artist exchange program.

As part of KOFICE’s “2025 Korea Round Culture” program, three Singaporean groups will make their Korean debut at the festival. Audiences will experience the broad spectrum of Singapore’s jazz—from classic swing to contemporary styles.

- Jazz in July 2025

Since 2022, Jarasum Jazz has sent at least one Korean jazz group annually to perform at Jazz in July, Singapore’s largest jazz festival. This year, Forestet, Ahn Jaejin Quartet, and Kang Jaehoon Trio delivered successful performances as part of the ongoing exchange.


Canada

As part of Canada On Stage, a Korea-Canada music festival exchange program, Jarasum Jazz Festival is enhancing its collaboration with the Toronto Jazz Festival. This initiative is presented in celebration of the “2024–2025 Year of Cultural Exchanges between Korea and Canada” and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE). The Embassy of Canada in Seoul and is also taking part of the project, through the support from Canada Council for the Arts.

As a result, In June, Korean band BANDO performed at both the Toronto Jazz Festival and Drom Taberna. Continuing the partnership, Toronto-based Jeremy Ledbetter Trio—one of Canada’s leading jazz groups—will make their Korean debut at Jarasum Jazz Festival this October.
